What is hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
The wound care center provides hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). HBOT allows patients to breathe in high concentrations of 100 percent oxygen while inside a hyperbaric chamber. The chamber provides an environment where air pressure levels are increased, which allows the lungs to take in more oxygen.
As the high concentration of oxygen is delivered to the bloodstream, it stimulates the growth of new blood vessels and improves circulation. This speeds up the wound healing process and also helps fight off certain types of infections.
