April Harper Receives Memorial Satilla's 'First Ever' DAISY Nurse Leader Award
During Nurses Week, Memorial Satilla Health presented the hospital’s very first DAISY Nurse Leader Award, recognizing the extraordinary impact of nursing leadership on our teams and patient care, to April Harper, Heart Center nurse.
Harper has been a team member for eight years. She lives in Waycross.
Harper received multiple nominations for the award. One nomination reads: April exemplifies the very heart of nursing, selfless, compassionate, and unwavering in her commitment to both patients and her team. Known for consistently going above and beyond, she frequently responds to calls for help across departments, bringing a calm presence, positivity, and a genuine “How can I help?” mindset during some of the hospital’s most challenging moments.
April's dedication was especially evident during a high-acuity emergency when she volunteered to accompany a critically ill patient on a complex, life-saving flight transfer. Managing the patient’s care mid-flight, she demonstrated exceptional clinical skill and composure, while also continuing to follow the patient’s progress afterward, an act that reflects not just professional excellence, but a deeply compassionate, servant’s heart.
"April is a trusted leader and mentor who supports colleagues across multiple roles. Whether stepping into leadership during times of need or providing emotional support to anxious patients, April leads with empathy and integrity," said CNO Jen Weaver. "Her quiet dedication, resilience, and ability to uplift those around her make her a truly exceptional nurse and a deserving recipient of this honor. We are grateful for the leaders like April who show up every day, and help create an environment where exceptional care can thrive."
The DAISY Nurse Leader Award was created to shine a light on those who do not typically have direct patient care as part of their work and those who create an environment where compassionate, skillful care thrives. This award recognizes Nurse Managers, Directors, Assistant Managers, Charge Nurses, Chief Nursing Officers, Informatics Nurses, and Patient Flow Nurses.
